Before the start of the NFL regular season, a New York Jets fan flipped a coin and, with heads or tails, drew the franchise's results until their elimination in the AFC conference finals. The interesting thing is that, by the end of Week 9, the fan has been 100% correct in his predictions to date. As the Jets continue to defy expectations, one wonders, how much longer can this streak go on?

Sometimes fate is a cruel companion and it seems that in recent seasons it hasn't been kind to the New York Jets.

They are a team that are typically used to going through more trouble than glory in the American Football League but have reached the halfway point of the current season in impressive form, heading into their bye week with a solid 6-3 record.

The Jets' season and the coin's correct predictions all started with a loss to Lamar Jackson's (25) Baltimore Ravens on the opening day. A few days later, coach Robert Saleh's men (43) got their first win at the Cleveland Browns.

It could have all been a fluke, but what if the coin was right again?

Well, Week 3 came and history repeated itself. The Jets lost at home to the Cincinnati Bengals but the coin went three from three.

The next four games were all victories for the Jets and so it seemed that the coin-tossing wizard was not only clairvoyant but a lucky charm, too.

The following loss to Bill Belichick's New England Patriots (70) was also miraculously predicted.

The Jets' ninth and most recent match in the season was to come against their state neighbours and division rivals, the Buffalo Bills.

It was a critical moment for the fan's prediction hot streak as the coin had foreseen a win over one of the league's most in-form teams. The logical expectation was for the Jets to lose and for the coin's charm to finally come to an end.

However, the Jets prevailed 20-17 in a thrilling encounter to further prolong the inexplicable.

If the coin continues to call their results correctly, the New York franchise should finish the Regular League with an 11-6 record and advance to the penultimate game of the season, the AFC Conference Final.

That would represent a mammoth achievement for a squad that was ranked 28th in 2021 and hasn't played in the Playoffs since 2011 when the Steelers prevented them from reaching Super Bowl XLV.

However, crazier things have happened.

Expect the unexpected

Aside from this fascinating anecdote, the job being done by Robert Saleh's men has been highly commendable.

Before the start of the season, nobody expected the display that these Jets are currently putting on. They have beaten some of the best teams in the country such as the Bills, the Packers, and the equally surprising Miami Dolphins.

The undisputed leader and soul of the team is rookie Sauce Gardner (22). Having arrived from the University of Cincinnati, the Detroit-native cornerback has brought a sense of joy to MetLife Stadium with his electric and passionate play.

Who knows how far the Jets can go this season but as their form continues to impress and surprise, the coin's prediction of an AFC Conference Final appearance is looking less and less outlandish by the game.
