Lorient stunned the 10 men of Paris Saint-Germain on their way to a 3-1 victory in Ligue 1, the first time in 16 games this season that the Parisians have failed to beat a side starting the day in the bottom half.

PSG were expected to stroll to their record 11th title, which perhaps translated into early over-confidence against a Lorient side keen to tear up the script.

Romain Faivre helped them do just that as he teed up Enzo Le Fee, who finished clinically to shake the Parc des Princes on the quarter-hour mark.

The mindless nature of Les Parisiens’ start was then embodied by Achraf Hakimi. Having already needlessly slid in on Faivre, the wing-back received a second booking for a late lunge on Darlin Yongwa a mere 20 minutes into proceedings.

However, it was Lorient who momentarily lost their minds when Kylian Mbappe equalised in the most bizarre fashion possible, as the forward wasn’t awarded a penalty but was then gifted his fourth goal in three games when Yvon Mvogo put the ball down, with PSG’s talisman capitalising in a flash.

Lorient recovered defiantly, as Faivre ghosted past Marco Verratti and played a pass that squirmed through the crowd towards the back post, where Yongwa was on hand to score a memorable first-ever career goal.

There were clear signs of PSG's frustration as they vied to get back on level terms, with substitute Fabian Ruiz sending a horrible attempt spinning harmlessly wide and Sergio Ramos’ authoritative header only finding the roof of the net.

Even with Mbappe up to his usual tricks, Lorient’s resolute and well-organised backline did a stellar job of nullifying the hosts’ advances, with Mvogo bravely denying Danilo Pereira’s header from point-blank range when called upon.

After wasting an opportunity and having a goal ruled out for offside, Bamba Dieng finally gave his backline the breathing space they craved, scoring at the second attempt after PSG left themselves wide open trying to equalise, as Lorient spectacularly ended their five-game winless run to lift themselves back into the top half.

In doing so, they also ended a three-game winning streak for Christophe Galtier’s side, handing Olympique de Marseille the opportunity to reduce PSG’s lead atop the Ligue 1 table to five points.
