Bruce Bochy (67), a three-time World Series winning manager, has joined the Texas Rangers on a three-year deal that will see him take the him until the end of the 2025 season, the baseball club announced on Friday.

The former San Francisco Giants manager, who has not managed in MLB since 2019 becomes the 20th manager in the franchise's history and is the first to join the Rangers having won a World Series.

Bochy has had considerable success in the sport, leading the Gians to three titles in five years. Since 2019, his final year in charge of the Bay Area team, he has been their special adviser, whilst also leading Team France in the World Baseball Classic. He has spent 25 pervious years coaching in MLB.

Speaking about his move to Texas, Bochy said in a statement: “If I was going to return to managing, it had to be the right situation. I strongly believe that to be the case with the Rangers, and I can’t wait to get started.”

“Over the last several days, I’ve had extensive conversations with Chris Young and other individuals in the organisation, and I had the chance to meet with Ray Davis.

"Their vision and commitment to putting together a club that can contend and win year in and year out is impressive, and I became convinced I wanted to be a part of that."

Bochy takes over a side that is slowly rebuilding after some years in the wilderness. Last offseason, they signed Marcus Semien to a mult-year deal, the same was done for Nathaniel Lowe and Corey Seager as they look to bring play-off baseball back to Arlington.

Last season, they finished with a record of 68 wins and 94 losses, placing fourth in the American League West, nearly 40 games behind league leaders and state rivals, the Houston Astros.

Rangers Executive Vice President & General Manager Chris Young added: "“In his 25 years with San Diego and San Francisco, Bruce was one of the most successful and respected managers in Major League Baseball.

"With a calm and steady presence, he has a remarkable ability to connect and communicate with players, coaches, and staff, and his teams have always played with maximum effort. His knowledge of the game, as well as his integrity is unmatched.
