Jakub Mensik eyes winning start to the European indoor swing as home qualifier Lukas Neumayer rides the momentum

Match News & Form

Jakub Mensik has not produced the level of performance or results he would have wanted for quite some time, barring a quarterfinal run at the Montreal Masters in August. Even so, he continues to occupy a healthy position inside the ATP top 20, and the final weeks of the season offer him a great opportunity to climb further. Injuries and limited tennis badly affected this phase of his season last year, so there are points on the table for him to grab. He withdrew before his second-round clash in Basel this week last year and later pulled out of the Paris Masters as well. It will be interesting to see how well he can seize these opportunities to propel himself up the rankings.

Lukas Neumayer plays most of his tennis on clay at Challenger level, where he is an inconsistent and unreliable performer. It was therefore a surprise to see him make the most of a home qualifying opportunity in Vienna, storming into the main draw with wins over two higher-ranked, top-100 opponents in Vit Kopriva and Titouan Droguet. It is a deeply satisfying result, as both of his previous campaigns in Vienna ended in the first qualifying round, in 2022 and 2025.

This is only the Austrian’s sixth tour-level main-draw appearance. His previous five unsurprisingly came on clay, four of them at his home event in Kitzbühel, where he also recorded his only tour-level main-draw win, upsetting compatriot Sebastian Ofner in 2024.

Head-to-Head

The two players have never met before.

Stats & Facts

Jakub Mensik has only one quarterfinal at tour-level indoor events, and it came here in Vienna on his debut in 2024.

Mensik has won 10 of his 11 matches against players outside the top 100 this year.

The highest-ranked opponent Lukas Neumayer has faced in his career is Zizou Bergs, then world No. 38, at the Davis Cup this year, and he lost that match in three sets.

Neumayer has played three matches on indoor hard courts this year and won all of them, at the Davis Cup and in Vienna qualifying this week.

Betting Analysis

Jakub Mensik is far from his best at the moment, and his confidence is not especially high. Even so, this comfortable first-round draw against an inexperienced Austrian should see the Czech make a winning start to the indoor hard-court swing, a stretch where he can make a big impact if he finds early form. Both the surface and the conditions suit him well. Having said that, with home support behind him and real momentum from qualifying, Neumayer has the potential to keep things tight and possibly force a tie-break.
