Lorient made it five consecutive Ligue 1 victories despite being reduced to 10 men, thanks to a late winner from Théo Le Bris. It was the 20-year-old’s first goal in professional football, and the result means LOSC Lille have now scored and conceded in their previous 12 Ligue 1 matches.

Lille had their young goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier to both thank and blame in a frenetic opening 10 minutes. The 20-year-old stopper made an excellent save from Julien Ponceau, but moments later he was at fault for the opening goal of the game. Smart interplay between Ponceau and Stéphane Diarra allowed the latter to deliver a cross that Chevalier only managed to punch against the unfortunate Bafodé Diakité, who could do nothing to avoid the ball bouncing off him and into his own net.

The response from the away side was muted, although Adam Ounas was a constant source of danger for Les Dogues’ defence, and it was the Algerian who started the move that ended with Jonathan David forcing the first save of the day from Yvon Mvogo in the home goal. Moments earlier, Lorient had gone close to doubling their lead, when Enzo Le Fée finished his driving run with a long-range shot that had to be turned away by Chevalier.

Lorient’s lead was under threat from a resurgent Lille in the early moments of the second half, and Les Merlus’ job became more difficult just after the hour mark, when Dango Ouattara received his second yellow card for a trip on Ounas.

David had already gone close to an equaliser after an improvised flick looped over Mvogo in and bounced back off the bar, but with just over the 10 minutes to go the Canadian tapped home from close range after a neat Lille move. Ounas once again was at the heart of the action, as he drifted inside and played a perfect through ball to Jonathan Bamba, who squared for David to slot home into an empty net. The away side thought it was enough for a point, until Le Bris, who is the nephew of Lorient manager Régis Le Bris, breezed past his man and slotted home to send the Stade du Moustoir into raptures.
