Nothing initially suggested that the player trained at Eclair Football Filles of Sa'a would one day set foot on the pitches of the Spanish capital. Her departure from Cameroon in 2023 was largely thanks to an agreement between her training club and CD Getafe Femenino, driven by the foundation of Andre Onana, international goalkeeper and honorary president of Eclair de Sa'a.
This partnership, since renewed for another four years, has made Getafe a true gateway for Cameroonian women’s football: goalkeeper Cathy Biya, defender Eliane Manbolamo Bodolo - who will return to the club next season - as well as Marie Victoire Ngono, Raissa Mbappe, Camilla Daha, and Saturne Nkada have all played there or are still part of the squad.
For Toko Njoya, the trial quickly paid off. During her first full season in the Segunda Federacion in 2023/2024 - Spain’s third division - she established herself as a regular in Madrid’s midfield: 26 appearances, five goals. These numbers earned her a contract extension in July 2024, after Getafe’s title win secured the club’s promotion to the Primera, Spain’s second division.

The big leap to Madrid
After two seasons at Getafe, and 20 starts in 22 matches in the Primera, she signed a two-year deal with the reserve team of Real Madrid, who also compete in the Spanish women’s second division. On her social media, the player - who never stops thanking God for every achievement - briefly wrote, alongside a photo of herself in her merengue jersey: "It’s done. Now Hala Madrid. Giving thanks to God. The work continues."
With Real Madrid B, "Toko," as she is nicknamed by her club, lost her status as an undisputed starter and started just 13 of the 22 matches she played. She still managed to score two goals, with her number 23 becoming her trademark.
Absent from the Real Madrid first team’s pre-season due to the AFCON, she could be promoted to the senior squad according to Africa Top Sport. So far, she has appeared once on a Liga F match sheet, wearing the number 49 jersey. Real Madrid themselves have not yet made any official statement about her.
A breakthrough that coincides with the rise of the Lionesses
Toko Njoya’s European journey has gone hand in hand with her debut for the Indomitable Lionesses. First called up to the senior team in April 2025 for a friendly against Morocco, she was immediately named in the starting lineup by coach Jean-Baptiste Bisseck in Casablanca, alongside another rising star, Naomi Eto, captain of the U20s with whom she played at the 2024 U20 World Cup.
Her breakthrough was swift: she was called up again for the double-header against Algeria in the qualifiers for the Women’s AFCON.
At the end of June 2026, her name appeared among the 26 players selected for the Women’s AFCON. The squad list was notable for the absence of two long-time leaders, Ajara Nchout and Falonne Meffometou, amid internal tensions over bonuses and the captain’s armband, now entrusted to Colette Ndzana, a former Dijon player.
In this period of transition, Toko Njoya is among the young players - alongside Naomi Eto (PSG), Nina Ngueleu (Montpellier), and Monique Ngock (Fleury) - expected to play a bigger role in Cameroon’s squad.
