Sevilla moved out of the La Liga relegation zone after recording a vital 2-1 triumph over Getafe at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, extending their impressive H2H record to seven consecutive victories.

Despite sitting in the relegation zone after the opening 15 matches of a league campaign for the first time since 1999/00, the hosts started confidently, with plenty of possession inside the Getafe half. Armed with the early momentum, Sevilla looked to make their pressure count before the half-hour mark, yet Joan Jordán and Ivan Rakitić both saw efforts well saved by David Soria.

The hosts continued to dominate proceedings before HT, and deservedly broke the deadlock in the 36th minute, as Marcos Acuña - fresh from winning the FIFA World Cup with Argentina - clinically headed home from Rakitić’s free-kick. Undeterred by the setback, Getafe thought they’d found an immediate response minutes later, however Enes Ünal was deemed to be in an offside position after finishing calmly beyond Bono.

The second half started in open fashion, with Getafe eager to find a route back into the contest. The visitors gradually began to gain an upper hand, and came within inches of finding an equaliser, when Borja Mayoral directed a close-range header narrowly wide of the post.

With 25 minutes remaining and the scoreline still delicately poised, Getafe continued in their pursuit of a leveller, but were left to rue some wasteful finishing from Mayoral and Ángel Algobia. This ultimately proved costly for the visitors, as Sevilla doubled their advantage through substitute Rafa Mir, who finished confidently from Oliver Torres’ accurate delivery.

Despite facing a daunting two-goal deficit, Getafe gave themselves a late lifeline with three minutes left on the clock, as Majoral finally got his name on the scoresheet, finishing beyond Bono from inside the box. Sevilla looked to regain their composure in the final moments, and despite some late pressure, held on to secure their first league victory on home soil of the season.
