Chicago White Sox rookie Braden Montgomery became just the fifth player in Major League Baseball history to hit a walk-off home run in his debut.

He joins Carlos Perez (2015), Miguel Cabrera (2003), Josh Bard (2002), and Billy Parker (1971) as the only ones to do so.

Montgomery, 23, finished his debut going 2-for-5 at the plate with a homer and single, one run, and three RBI.

The White Sox are now within half a game of the Cleveland Guardians for first place in the American League Central division as they improved to 35-31 with the win.

They are now 6-4 in their last 10, and possess the only positive run differential (+9) in the AL Central. Their 21-11 home record this season is the second-best in the entire American League behind the Tampa Bay Rays (23-9).

Before being called up, Montgomery was hitting a stellar .315 with .970 OPS, 10 home runs, and 41 RBI in the minors (29 games in Triple-A, 27 in Double-A) this season.

Now, the MLB's No. 21 overall prospect (White Sox's No. 2) joins one of the most exciting squads in all of baseball to help them continue their division title run, just a couple of years removed from breaking the modern MLB (1900-) record for most losses in a season (121).
