The Milwaukee Brewers are now one win away from becoming the 22nd team in MLB history to sweep the World Series after defeating the Rays 10-1 in Game 3 on Monday night thanks to an eight-run fifth inning.

It has been 14 years since the league saw a sweep in the World Series. The last it happened was when the San Francisco Giants did it to the Detroit Tigers in 2012.

On the other side, it's looking bleak for the Rays. No team in MLB history has ever come back to win the title after going down 0-3 in the World Series. Even more so, only four teams have ever won a Game 4 to keep the series alive, and no team down 0-3 has ever forced a Game 6.

The Rays will look to defy history when Game 4 takes place on October 27th at The Trop. As for the Brewers, they need one more victory to celebrate their franchise's first-ever ring.

Game recap and highlights

Both teams got runners on in the first inning, but neither were able to capitalize on their opportunities. Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Chandler Simpson was caught stealing for the first time this Postseason to end the bottom of the first, but he more than made up for it in an early play-of-the-game candidate in the second.

Simpson ran down a ball slamming into the left field wall before Nick Fortes gunned down Garrett Mitchell at second to end the inning as the Rays fans went crazy.

Heading into the game, Rays starting pitcher and former Brewers ace Freddy Peralta had given up just two runs all Postseason, never more than one in a game. That was until his former team put up two in the third inning to take an early lead.

Peralta forced David Hamilton to pop out before the damage ensued. Jackson Chourio picked up his second hit of the game with a single before he advanced to second following a Jake Bauers walk. He tied Andruw Jones for the most multi-hit Postseason games (9) in MLB history before turning 23 years old.

Chourio is also the youngest player ever at 22 years old to record multiple hits in each of the first three games of a World Series

Christian Yelich came through in the clutch and scored Chourio from second on an RBI single to make it 1-0. The Postseason's best hitter in William Contreras followed suit with an RBI single of his own to bring home Bauers from second as the Brewers went up 2-0.

Peralta settled back in with a 1-2-3 top of the fifth, striking out Mitchell and Cooper Pratt, then forcing Sal Frelick to line out to Simpson in left.

Robert Gasser continued to be lights out through the first four innings, giving up just one hit with two strikeouts and not a single walk.

The Rays' defense continued to pump out the highlights. Caminero made a leaping grab at third to get Hamilton out for the first out of the fifth inning.

Unfortunately for them, that's all they showed out for.

Chourio picked up his third hit of the game shortly after and managed to steal second. Peralta struck out Bauers before walking Yelich to bring up Contreras with runners on first and second with two outs.

He forced him into a fielder's choice as Caminero tried to gun down Yelich at second. The initial call was an out to end the inning, but after further review, the call was overturned as the bases were loaded for Turang.

That ended Peralta's night. He finished with two earned runs on seven hits with three walks and four strikeouts on 87 pitches (50 strikes).

Cam Booser came in for Peralta to try and get them out of the inning. But the Brewers had other plans.

Heading into the game, opposing batters were 0-for-9 against Booser this Postseason with runners in scoring position. Then, with two outs and two strikes, Turang opened the historic floodgates.

He drilled a two-run single with two strikes and two outs to make it 4-0. Mitchell followed up with an RBI single. Pratt doubled on a liner down the third-base line to bring in another two. Frelick doubled to bring in Pratt. Hamilton singled to bring in Frelick. Chourio doubled for his fourth hit of the game to bring in Hamilton from first to make it 10-0.

The eight runs scored are the most scored with two outs in a single World Series inning ever. They are also the first team ever to have seven consecutive batters record a hit.

Milwaukee continued to let Gasser dominate on the mound. Not only did he become the first Brewers starting pitcher this Postseason to record an out in the sixth inning, but he was also the first to go a full six innings in the first place.

He gave up just one hit and one walk with three strikeouts on 75 pitches (50 strikes).

Gasser became the first lefty starting pitcher in World Series history since Sandy Koufax in 1965 to face the minimum batters through six innings and the first pitcher outright to accomplish the feat since Curt Schilling with the Arizona Diamondbacks in Game 7 of the 2001 World Series.

However, he is just the second pitcher ever to finish a six-inning (or more) outing facing the minimum, joining Don Larsen in 1956 when he threw a perfect game.

Antonio Senzatela pitched a shutout seventh inning for his first appearance this Postseason since Game 3 against the San Diego Padres in the Division Round - also the only game the Brewers lost up until this point.

He finished out the eighth inning as well without allowing a hit, partially thanks to Frelick making an incredible catch on a right-field pop-up.

The Brewers fans received a treat at the end of the game.

Longest-tenured player on the team, Brandon Woodruff, made his first appearance of the Postseason, and it came in the same ballpark he made his debut in. The first batter he faced in his debut? Corey Dickerson, who is now the first base coach of the Rays.

It was the first time Woodruff saw the mound since July 4th during the regular season after dealing with shoulder issues.

He gave up the first Rays run of the game on a Diaz double to center that scored Cedric Mullins from second before finishing things off.

Now, all eyes shift to Game 4 on October 27th.
