Cadiz recorded a vital three points at home against Mallorca to lift themselves out of LaLiga's relegation zone, at least for the time being. Mallorca remain in 10th place as the season hits the halfway mark.

Cadiz boast an impressive home record in LaLiga this season, having gone unbeaten in their last six (W2, D4). They looked keen to keep this run going, as they nearly opened the scoring just five minutes into the game.

Predrag Rajkovic was called into action to keep Alvaro Negredo’s header out from a teasing Alfonso Espino cross. Mallorca’s resistance didn’t last much longer though, as Cadiz took the lead moments later.

Negredo may have been denied a goal, but he played a key part in the opener, as he squared the ball to Theo Bongonda for the Belgian-born DR Congo international to calmly place his effort beyond the goalkeeper.

Things got even worse for Mallorca when the hosts were awarded a penalty by VAR after Anthony Lozano’s header was deemed to have been blocked by the arm of a defender.

Captain Alex Fernandez was the man who stepped up before he coolly sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to double his side's advantage as the game approached the halfway stage.

Mallorca were desperate to avoid a third consecutive away league defeat without scoring and had a golden opportunity to pull a goal back just before the hour mark, as Tino Kadewere raced through on goal only to be denied by a fantastic save from Jeremias Ledesma.

Ahead of this game, no team had conceded more goals in the last 15 minutes of La Liga matches than Cadiz, but that wasn't the case in this contest as the hosts saw out the victory.

As a result, Cadiz climb out of the bottom three whilst putting a dampener on Mallorca’s best start to a season since 2010/11.
