Getafe extended their winning streak at home to three matches with a 3-2 victory over Girona at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez, leaving the Blanquivermells condemned to a fourth league loss from their last five visits to the Spanish capital.

Getafe put Girona to the sword in the first quarter-hour with a quickfire brace, birthing fears of a potential first defeat in three matches for the visitors. Turkish forward Enes Ünal fired the hosts into the lead following Borja Mayoral's inch-perfect assist, before converting a penalty himself following a cynical challenge by Girona stopper Javi Hernandez. Perhaps fuelled by their two-match unbeaten run, the Azulones continued mounting pressure on Girona, and a third always looked likely.

Despite being the potential victim of a landslide thumping, the visitors did their best to string possession in their favour. That aim to stem the tide proved fruitless though, as Quique Sánchez Flores' men left them with no breathing space upfront. As hard Girona tried to push ahead, they were left badly exposed at the back, and Getafe struck a third via Mayoral once more, via a brilliant effort into the bottom corner right on the stroke of HT.

Getafe ultras, Marea Azul, continued rallying their beloved XI for a fourth of the afternoon. But instead they saw the visitors do all the dictating after the break, as they struck their first from Taty Castellanos' tap-in following a well-knitted counterattack. But the home faithful were still confident about their side's ability to hold a two-goal lead, and the atmosphere in the stadium remained buoyant.

The visitors had different ideas though, cutting the hosts' lead to just one goal after Miguel Gutierrez capitalised brilliantly with a drive from outside the box to stun the home faithful 10 minutes before HT. However, Michel's outfit ultimately failed to build upon their momentum, falling to a resolute Getafe side in the dying minutes.

Despite not being at full capacity, the Coliseum Alfonso Perez was ultimately treated to a significant win that lifts them out of the drop zone, at least for the moment. Meanwhile, Girona still sit four points adrift of a historic European spot, despite their failure to register three league wins in a row since March 2018.
