The scrutinised Infantino is attending the FIFA Women's Under-20 World Cup in Poland and was asked about his re-election prior to kick-off, but refused to answer.
After the match, FIFA confirmed to Sky Sports that Infantino will run for re-election in the FIFA presidential elections in April 2027.
"The FIFA president announced in April that he will stand for re-election in 2027. Of course, nothing has changed. Mr Infantino will be standing for re-election."
As it stands, Infantino will run uncontested, though UEFA, AFC, and CONCACAF will likely field a rival before November's deadline. CONCACAF President Victor Montagliani, Legia Warsaw owner Dariusz Mioduski, AFC President Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, and FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafstrom are rumoured to be the candidates under consideration.
The deadline for candidates to submit their nominations, supported by at least five member associations, is November 18th, 2026, at 23:59 CET.
The European, Asian, and North and Central American confederations announced they were rescinding their support for Infantino after the FIFA Forward Enterprise scandal.
The Dutch football association (KNVB) announced it'd host a global summit on FIFA's future, with all 211 FIFA members invited, but not President Gianni Infantino.
"The KNVB no longer has confidence in the leadership of FIFA President Gianni Infantino. We believe FIFA needs new leadership from 2027 onwards," it said in a statement. "But a new President alone is not enough. The way FIFA is governed must change as well. The KNVB supported Infantino in the most recent presidential election. That support was never unconditional."
Infantino, elected FIFA president in 2016 after replacing the disgraced Sepp Blatter, will stand for re-election at the 77th FIFA Congress in April 2027, to be held in Rabat, Morocco.
