For much of the world, we are closing in on the winter break to give space for the World Cup and despite that, there are still plenty of juicy stories from across the globe. Here are the best that you may have missed.

First round shocks in FA Cup

The oldest football competition in the world always provides storylines and this year's FA Cup First Round is no different.

For those not familiar with the process, clubs from England's third and fourth division join non-league clubs who have gone through multiple qualfying rounds to get to this point.

As always there were some 'giant killings', most noticably seventh-tier Alvechurch - of the Southern League Premier Division Central - dumping out League One's Cheltenham Town 2-1 away from home.

Danny Waldron was the hero for the visitors as he netted twice either side of half time to give the non-league side a huge two-goal lead. Ryan Jackson got a goal back for Cheltenham in the 54th minute and despite a tense ending to the game, Alvechurch made their way into the second round of the cup - the furthest they have ever progressed in the competition in their near 100-year history.

Elsewhere, Will Goodwin scored with the last kick of the game to earn Torquay a replay with Derby County after the sides drew 2-2 at Plainmoor.

Other notable non-league clubs to make it through to the next round were King's Lynn, Chippenham Town and Buxton.

The draw for the second round happens on Monday night, with the teams left in the competition just one win away from a glamour tie against a Premier League giant in January.

Boca and Racing see red in Trofeo de Campeones

Argentinian football is known for its sometimes fiery occassions but there can't be many games that have seen so many red cards than the 2-1 win for Racing Club over Boca Juniors in the Champions Trophy on Sunday.

A game that went to extra time with 11v11 on the pitch changed dramatically as the referee issued an astonishing 11 red cards to both players and coaching staff.

The game even finished early given that Boca only had six players left on the pitch towards the end.

After some games you get compilations of a player's skills or goals on social media, this time around the spotlight shines of referee Facundo Tello.

Jump-er at the chance

Fans, no matter who you support, will do whatever they can to help their side to victory. Normal ways of doing that are supporting them through song or through financial aid in the club shop.

A lesser-known way of helping happened at Rotherham United this week as a fan gave full back Wes Harding the jumper off of his back to dry the ball before a throw-in.

Harding looks pretty confused by the gesture, but goes on to use it before the fan then leaves the garment on the rail separating the pitch and the stand so it can be used again.

Pure dedication - unfortunately it made no difference as Rotherham were beaten 2-1 at home to Norwich City, leaving them 17th in the Championship table, just two points above the drop zone.
