Something had to break Verona’s way after five straight league losses, and luckily for the Gialloblu, their luck changed quickly at the Mapei Stadium. Within two minutes the visitors found themselves in front after a Koray Günter cross somehow made its way through a mess of bodies in front of the goal and dribbled over the line, stunning the home crowd.
Sassuolo’s shaky start did not last long however, as they gained control of the match in the subsequent minutes after the Verona opener. They were rewarded for their efforts when Armand Laurienté picked up the ball on the left-wing before going on a superb solo run and curling the ball home on the 30 minute mark to level the scoreline before the break.
The hosts continued to pile the pressure on their counterparts in the second half. While Kevin Lasagna saw his shot cleared off the line in the final 20 minutes, it would quickly get worse for Gialloblu when Davide Frattesi slotted home Sassuolo’s winner from close range with just 15 minutes remaining in full time, delivering Verona a sixth straight loss in Serie A.
After finishing just outside of the top-half of the table last campaign, the Neroverdi will be keen to make progress up the standings this time around. Despite losing in their last two league outings coming into the night, the comeback victory against Verona ensures that Alessio Dionisi’s side will finish the matchweek 11 in the top-half.
