After Oman managed to keep the score at 0-0 until the break and coach Flick mixed up his team for the second period, Niclas Fullkrug scored the golden goal in the 80th minute.
First half: lots of possession, little return
The first half was a tough one for the DFB team: lots of possession, few goal-scoring opportunities. The hosts, on the other hand, played well in front of around 30,000 frenetically cheering fans and dared to enter the German half from time to time on quick counterattacks, but without really threatening Manuel Neuer in goal. Havertz (16.) and Moukoko (45.+1) had the best chances for Germany.
Open exchange in the second half
With the introduction of Füllkrug, Germany brought a little more dynamism into the game. It was Füllkrug (53.) who had the best chance to make it 1-0, but he was denied by Al Mukhaini's reflexes. The Oman keeper also reacted well to the subsequent corner when Kehrer had a free shot from five metres.
But Oman were also on the offensive: Al Ghassani (72.) missed the best chance after a cross from the right. Flick's team often did not look well organised on the counterattacks.
Fullkrug redeems Germany and celebrates first goal
In the 80th minute, Germany finally found redemption: after a pass from Hofman to Havertz on the right flank, Havertz broke through and laid into the middle for Fullkrug. The Bremen player easily scored his first goal in his first match for the German national team with his third contact with the ball.
After 94 minutes, it was finally over in a generally mixed match.
