Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia continued with their fine start to the 2026/27 season after edging out bogey side Kakamega Homeboys in their SportPesa Premier League fixture at Bukhungu Stadium on Wednesday.

The record champions went into the matchday four fixture having won their opening three. Gor Mahia kicked off their campaign with a 4-2 win against Murang’a Seal, defeated APS Bomet 1-0, and Bandari FC 1-0.

Against Homeboyz, Gor Mahia made sure they kept their perfect run going after former Homeboyz winger David Okoth scored the decisive goal in the second half.

Gor Mahia looked the better side in the opening exchanges with forward Musa Shariff missing a good opportunity after being teed up by Daniel Sakari.

Alpha Onyango, who scored in the last win against the Dockers, almost found the target again after being set up by Ebenezer Ocran, who had exchanged passes with Shariff, but the Harambee Stars player saw his effort saved by Ibrahim Wanzala.

Homeboyz’s first chance of the game fell to former Tusker FC striker Ibrahim Joshua, but the Tanzanian was not able to finish a cross from Collins Odhiambo.

The second half started with Gor Mahia coach Charles Akonnor making a triple substitution. Ben Stanley, Ebenezer Assifuah and Jackson Dwang were introduced as K’Ogalo continued to put pressure in a bid to break the deadlock.

It was Stanley who created the winner. The Harambee Stars player started the build-up before setting up Dwang, who in turn laid a neat pass to Okoth, whose left-footed effort beat Wanzala in the Homeboys' goal.

The victory helped Gor Mahia cement their lead at the top of the 18-team league table with a maximum 12 points. They have scored seven goals and conceded two.

For Homeboyz, they dropped to ninth with four points from three matches. Homeboyz have registered one win, one draw, and one defeat. Gor Mahia will return to action against KCB on Saturday.

AFC draw as Bandari remain winless

In another match, Bandari remained winless from four matches after drawing 0-0 against Posta Rangers. The Dockers, who recently fired coaches Nicholas Muyoti and John Baraza, have managed three draws and one defeat.

Gor Mahia rivals AFC Leopards settled for another 0-0 draw against Mara Sugar to remain winless from two matches. Leopards' previous fixture saw them draw 0-0 against Shabana.

Their only win so far this season was a 2-1 result against former league champions Kenya Police FC, while they drew their season opener 0-0 against Bandari.

AFC Leopards are now lying fifth with six points from four matches, while Mara Sugar moved up to fourth with four points from the same number of matches.

Meanwhile, promoted Mombasa United suffered a 3-1 defeat against KCB, APS Bomet defeated 3K 3-0, while Murang’a Seal secured their second win of the campaign – a 3-2 outcome – against struggling Nairobi United.

On Thursday, Tusker FC will return to domestic action after being eliminated from the 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup by Singida Black Stars of Tanzania. The Brewers will face Mathare United in Embu.

Other matches will see Shabana FC take on Migori Youth, and Kenya Police host Ulinzi Stars in the ‘Police derby’.
