After 16 years and 1,109 games in the NHL, Keith Yandle (36) announced his retirement on Tuesday, following a career that included an ironman record of 989 consecutive games in the league.

Yandle played for four separate franchises across his career, finishing with the Philadelphia Flyers earlier this year.

The defenseman took to the Spittin' Chiclets podcast, saying he was "taking his talents to South Beach and doing nothing".

He was the 105th pick for the Pheonix (now Arizona) Coyotes in the 2005 NHL Draft, making his major league debut in the 2007-08 season.

He was an NHL all-star three times, most recently in 2019, but Yandle is best known for his longevity, with the ironman record of 989 straight games over 14 years, which is unlikely to beaten for a very long time.

Two other NHL players - P.K Subban (33) and Zdeno Chara (45) - have also announced their retirement on Tuesday.

Chara played for 24 years in the NHL, making 1,680 appearances in another astonishing career.

He was a six-time NHL all-star and won the coveted Stanley Cup back in 2011 with the Boston Bruins.

Subban, youngest of the three retirees, played 13 seasons in the NHL - with Montreal Candiens, Nashville Predators and New Jersey Devils.
