Dusan Vlahovic handed Juventus the perfect start just over a minute into the match, firing home a magnificent inch-perfect free-kick under the crossbar to register his first career goal against the Giallorossi.
Despite Roma managing to gain momentum in the game, they couldn’t help but fall victim to large gaps in midfield. Taking advantage, Juan Cuadrado forced Rui Patricio into a rather straightforward save, before drama ensued at the Allianz Stadium.
Having been stranded as a spectator for the goal, a dwindling Roma defence warranted Patricio to the same fate midway through the half, when Manuel Locatelli bagged a wonderful finish into the right corner.
However, much to the relief of the away side, referee Massimiliano Iratti ruled it out, having noticed a handball in the build-up following a VAR review.
With their perfect defensive record broken following two clean sheets, Roma had work to do going into the break, knowing well that only a spirited second-half showing could help avoid a fourth straight defeat against Juve.
Both teams restarted proceedings on an equal footing, but it was the Bianconeri who exhibited confidence and rhythm when in possession. Cuadrado once again proved to be a headache far wide on the pitch, as the Colombian struck a curled effort inches away from the left post with the clock nearing the hour mark.
Roma seemingly looked out of ideas and on the back foot, but an opportunity emerged out of nowhere ten minutes later.
Minutes after Tammy Abraham failed to test Wojciech Szczesny from inside the six-yard box, the Englishman made no mistake, nodding in from point-blank range after being superbly fed by Paulo Dybala following a long corner kick to the back post.
Massimiliano Allegri’s men witnessed a drop in tempo as the game entered the final minutes, with the coach bringing on newcomer Arkadiusz Milik in the hopes of regaining the lead.
However, they fell short in the final-third against a rather reenergised Giallorossi outfit, who inflicted the home side’s second successive league draw.
Both sides remain unbeaten this season so far, with Jose Mourinho perhaps the happier of the two managers.
