Lautaro Martinez had a hand in two goals as newly-crowned Serie A champions Inter Milan confidently secured a 3-0 win over Lazio, extending their unbeaten run in head-to-heads against the Biancocelesti to nine matches in the process.

Both head coaches fielded rotated sides with Wednesday’s Coppa Italia final in mind, yet Inter swiftly continued their celebrations after wrapping up the Scudetto on Sunday.

It took just six minutes for them to take the lead, as Marcus Thuram flicked on Yann Bisseck’s long throw and Martinez finished clinically in just his third appearance since February.

Thuram then fizzed a shot into the side netting as the Nerazzurri cut through their hosts with ease. Lazio made forays forward as they looked to get back into the game, with a Tijjani Noslin free-kick being routinely saved, but Josep Martinez was never truly stretched and Inter still carried a threat as a casual Thuram shot was blocked by Mario Gila.

Nicolo Barella had Edoardo Motta scrambling with a free-kick that ultimately went agonisingly off-target, but the Lazio goalkeeper was beaten again in the 39th minute.

Martinez was involved again, linking up wonderfully with Andy Diouf before laying the ball off for Petar Sucic to effortlessly stroke home from the edge of the box.

Cristian Chivu made a double change ahead of the restart, but his side initially continued to look untroubled with Bisseck getting forward and seeing his shot saved.

Lazio’s afternoon still got worse shortly before the hour mark, though, as a VAR check resulted in Alessio Romagnoli being sent off for raking his studs down Ange-Yoan Bonny’s leg.

Moments after seeing a speculative shot of his own saved, Carlos Augusto defended superbly to clear Gustav Isaksen’s goalward attempt and deny the hosts any hope. The Dane still kept pushing but sent one shot wide and saw another palmed behind.

That was a sign of definite improvement from the hosts, but their frustration in front of goal continued with Noslin’s effort being deflected behind. That was further compounded when Henrikh Mkhitaryan found enough space to fire in Inter’s third in the 76th minute.

It was a sign that Inter won’t be letting up following their title win, as the Nerazzurri extended their unbeaten record across all competitions to nine matches ahead of the Coppa Italia final. Lazio can take encouragement from their recent form going into that match, as this was just their second defeat in 11 games.
