Brazil scored four unanswered goals before the 40-minute mark in a first-half demolition job of South Korea in their round-of-16 tie at the World Cup in Qatar. The Brazilians go on to face Croatia in the quarterfinals.

21:58 CET: Well, it was all over before it even began, in a way.

It's fair to say that the Brazilians blew South Korea away in the first half. They were spectacular going forward in the early stages of the match and just ate up every opportunity to score that came their way.

Some brilliant interplay in the final third and clinical finishing made the Brazilians' first-half performance one of the more convincing displays of football that we've seen at this World Cup so far.

Brazil will go on to meet Croatia in the quarterfinals on Friday and you can expect the Croatians will have their work cut out for them in that match.

Second Half

Full-time statistics for Brazil - South Korea
Opta by Stats Perform

91': There will be four minutes added onto this second half.

89': Dani Alves comes close with a spectacular effort which ricochets away from goal.

88': Well the goal gave the Koreans a flicker of hope but it feels like it was much too little, too late. They are doing their best to repel the Brazilian attacks now as the game loses a little bit of zip, but they needed to do that in the first half.

81': Few changes here. For South Korea, Gue-Sung Cho is replaced by Ui-Jo Hwang. For Brazil, Neymar and their keeper Alisson depart. Weverton comes on in goal and Rodrygo, as well.

76': GOAL! South Korea have pulled one back! With an incredible strike! Is this the start of the miracle?

It was Seung-Ho Paik with the goal and it was a real thunderbolt. The ball fell to him outside the box, he lined it up and put his foot through it and it flew into the goal. Not much Alisson could do about that one.

74': Jae-Sung Lee is replaced by Kang-In Lee for South Korea.

70': A couple more changes for Brazil now. Bremer is coming on for Danilo. And Martinelli is coming on for Vinicius Jr.

68': Some desperate defending from Brazil to keep a few Korean shots out. That just goes to show, they aren't just about scoring goals, this team has a pretty mean defence too.

65': South Korea make another change. In-Beom Hwang is given a rest and is replaced by Seung-Ho Paik.

62': Brazil make their first change of the evening. Dani Alves is in, Eder Militao goes off. Not surprising to see Tite start to rest some of his troops given the scoreline. Expect to see him make his full complement of changes.

55': Raphinha almost breaks through again after some twisty and turning in the box. But his shot is brilliantly saved by Kim. He's made a couple of good saves now. Certainly not his fault his side are 4-0 down.

49': Looks like South Korea have stuck with their back four for this half. I suppose it's far too late to go on the defensive for them. They simply need to go for as many goals as possible now.

47': Big chance for Son there as he breaks free of the defence and bends a shot in typical fashion but Alisson makes a great save to maintain his clean sheet.

46': Brazil kick the second half off. And South Korea have made a couple of changes at the break. Woo-Young Jung and Jin-Su Kim are off. Jun-Ho Son and Chul Hong are on.

First Half

21:00 CET: Looking at Brazil's attacking thirds, you can see they haven't left a zone of the pitch alone. They simply have dangerous options everywhere: left, right and centrally. They have had four different goalscorers, too.

20:54 CET: Well, we've seen more dominant sides score fewer goals than Brazil did in this first half but they've taken every chance and they simply look hungrier, sharper, better.

Taking a look at the first-half stats below, you'll see that South Korea haven't been completely absent from the match but Brazil have four goals from six shots on target. It's been clinical by them while the Koreans have looked overwhelmed by the sheer number Brazil throw forward in attacks.

Very hard to see South Korea getting out of this hole. They'll need a miracle.

50': That's halftime in this round of 16 tie and it's all but over barring a miracle.

49': Great save by the Korean keeper Kim as he denies Richarlison's drilled low shot with an out-stretched leg. The Koreans are looking pretty open and vulnerable on the break as they look to get back in the game. They need to get that balance right and maybe hope that Brazil get bored of scoring.

47': Vinicius clips another enticing ball into the box but Richarlison can't connect. It's starting to feel like Brazil will score with every foray forward. It could get ugly here if South Korea can't find a way to dampen the threat of Brazil.

47': There will be five added minutes in this half.

46': Paqueta is played in again but fires at Kim in the Korean goal. Could have been five.

44': Woo-Young Jung picks up the first yellow card of the game.

43': Heung-Min Son has taken a knock, he looks ok but you'd forgive him for wishing he could get off this field. The Koreans will be happy to get into the locker rooms for a break and reassess how they will go about this match in the second half. They haven't been as bad as the score suggests, it's more that the Brazilians have been quite brilliant.

36': GOAL! 4-0 Brazil. This time it's Lucas Paqueta. Another great goal. Vinicius Jr broke down the left side before chipping a cross into the box which Paqueta met with a first-time shot low into the goal. Surely, game over now.

32': A mazy determined run gets Hwang in on goal but Alisson saves his close-range effort. The Koreans need a goal but that goes without saying, really.

29': GOAL! Brazil have a third and that one was the best yet. A thing of beauty. Richarlison this time. After some trickery, Richarlison plays a clever give-and-go at the edge of the area before being played in to finish with ease. Wonderful team goal that one. Hard to see South Korea coming back now.

25': Brazil have had more of the ball in the opening 25 minutes but it's three shots apiece and two shots on target apiece. Something for the Koreans to take from this start, at least.

22': South Korea haven't exactly looked out of their depth but you can't give Brazil opportunities and expect them to be wasted. Those two goals are a real confidence killer but there's a lot of football left in this one!

Neymar doesn't miss too many from the penalty spot as you can see from his penalty history graphic below. He chose to go bottom right this time to put Brazil 2-0 up.

17': Great effort by Hwang forcing Alisson into a diving save. That's encouraging for South Korea. They need to forget the score and just focus on getting one back first.

16': Well, that is what you call a nightmare start for South Korea. After a really well-worked opening, they've gifted Brazil a second very early.

12': GOAL! Neymar dispatches the spot kick cooly into the bottom corner. And they are dancing again.

11': PENALTY! Wow, terrible start for the Koreans, the Brazilians have now been awarded a penalty for a clumsy foul.

7': GOAL! Vinicius Jr opens the scoring early for Brazil after some wonderful build-up!

Well, Raphinha did the hard work there, beating a few defenders into the box before cutting it back to Vinicius Jr who was wide open and had time to cleverly pick his spot for the finish. And the Brazilians are dancing already!

5': Seems like a great atmosphere in the stadium as both sides feel each other out in the opening exchanges. You wonder with Brazil having rested almost their whole team last match, and Korea not having had that luxury, will Brazil have a bit more in the tank today?

1': South Korea kick the match off.

Every knock-out game at a World Cup is a huge occasion and this one promises to be enthralling. Can the Koreans pull out yet another shock result at this topsy-turvy tournament or will Neymar and co. sparkle again?

Team News

Brazil forward Neymar will start for the five-time champions after recovering from an ankle injury.

Full back Danilo was also cleared to play and will start on the left side of defence, with both Alex Sandro and Alex Telles ruled out by injuries.

Both Neymar and Danilo suffered ankle injuries in Brazil's opening 2-0 win over Serbia, which meant they missed the 1-0 win over Switzerland and the 1-0 defeat by Cameroon when coach Tite rotated his team to keep most of his key players fresh.

Centre back Eder Militao, who replaced Danilo at right back against Switzerland, will play against South Korea in the same role.

South Korea coach Paulo Bento made two changes to his starting 11, replacing Kwon Kyung-won and Lee Kang-in with defender Kim Min-Jae and forward Hwang Hee-Chan, who was the hero of their comeback 2-1 win against Portugal, coming off the bench to score the winner in stoppage time.

Brazil: Alisson; Eder Militao, Thiago Silva (captain), Marquinhos, Danilo, Casemiro, Lucas Paqueta, Neymar, Vinicius Jr, Raphinha, Richarlison.

South Korea: Kim Seung-Gyu, Kim Moon-Hwan, Kim Min-Jae, Kim Young-Gwon, Kim Jin-Su, Lee Jae-Sung, Jung Woo-Young, Jeong Woo-Yeong, Hwang In-Beom, Son Heung-Min (captain), Hwang Hee-Chan, Cho Gue-Sung.

See how they shape up here.

Introduction

It's knock-out time! Brazil meet South Korea in the World Cup's sixth round-of-16 tie with a spot in the quarters on the line.

Brazil are one of the teams strongly tipped to lift the trophy in Qatar and they will be heavy favourites to beat South Korea on their way to that target.

However, while Brazil will be well-backed to make light work of the Asian side, they proved to the world that they are not invincible when they lost to Cameroon last Friday, albeit with a heavily rotated side.

South Korea, meanwhile, scraped into the knock-phase of the tournament thanks to a last-gasp winner against a second-string Portugal, and Uruguay's lack of goals against Ghana.

That was their only win of the World Cup so far. Can they defy the odds and do it again against a side with the attacking flair and depth of Brazil? Follow the match with us to find out.
