Torino had won just one of their last six league matches coming into this clash, but they were showing promising signs of improving on that form early on. Demba Seck raced through on goal before firing home at the near post only for the Senegalese to see his goal ruled offside. The visitors continued to have the better chances despite Fiorentina enjoying a majority of the possession. Seck went close again soon afterwards, when he created some space for himself before he rifled a shot off the bar from an angle.
Fiorentina had won the three previous H2H’s at the Stadio Artemio Franchi but that record looked to be in jeopardy here, as Il Toro finally got the goal their play had deserved. Aleksey Miranchuk received the ball on the edge of the box before curling a lovely effort into the far corner and beyond the reach of Pietro Terracciano.
There were few chances at the start of the second half as Fiorentina struggled to break down the resilient Torino defence, the best of which fell to Jonathan Ikoné as he met Lorenzo Venuti’s cross but was unable to get his header on target. Torino spurned the chance to double their lead in the closing stages of the game but Alessandro Buongiorno’s header was blocked by a defender. Ultimately his miss wasn’t damaging as Torino moved into the top-seven, although remained eight points adrift of the European places.
