Former national team captain and defensive ace Henrik Mollgaard will become Nikolaj Jacobsen's new assistant for Denmark's reigning Olympic, World, and European champions. He will take up the position on 1 September and will continue his work as assistant to Stefan Madsen at French giants Paris Saint-Germain.

"I am really happy that Henrik Mollgaard has accepted the job. He has a profile that fits the team well and is closer to the players in terms of age."

"Overall, I am happy that Mollgaard has chosen to become a coach. He could be an exciting coach. He has always had his opinions and views on how things should be done", says Nikolaj Jacobsen to the Danish Handball Federation website.

Mollgaard won 230 international caps in his active career and was part of winning the Olympic Games twice and the World Championships four times, among other things.

"For many years as a player, I have drawn a huge amount of energy from the national team, and it has been a great inspiration for me. Especially in recent years, when I was given a greater leadership role in line with the generational change, I have really felt what a great environment it is to be a part of, because it is constantly developing", says Mollgaard.

Mollgaard replaces Henrik Kronborg, who, after 14 final rounds with the team, has chosen to retire.
