The Catalan club and its former directors - which also include Albert Soler and Oscar Grau, former sporting and executive directors, respectively - are accused of the crimes of business corruption in the form of sporting fraud, unfair administration and falsification of commercial documents for payments made from 2010 to 2018 to the person who during that time was number 2 of the Technical Committee of Referees, in charge among other functions of communicating the promotions and relegations of the referees.
The complaint has been lodged at Barcelona's Juzgado de Instruccion number 1, where a previous complaint has already been lodged by Estrada Fernandez, a current VAR referee.
According to the investigation that the Public Prosecutor's Office Negreira had received more than seven million euros from the Catalan entity since 2001. However, the complaint is from 2010 as the alleged irregularities have already been prescribed in previous years.
For the Public Prosecutor's Office, the complaint is justified because it considers that Negreira, "in his capacity as vice-president of the CTA and in exchange for money, carried out actions aimed at favouring FC Barcelona in the decision making of the referees in the matches played by the club, and thus in the results of the competitions".
