Despite taking the lead twice through Inaki Williams and Raul Garcia, Athletic Bilbao were unable to take all three points away from the Spanish capital as they drew 2-2 with Getafe.

Athletic Bilbao had led at the break more than any other side in LaLiga prior to the game, and took the lead again inside just two minutes, as a beautifully-lofted pass from Ander Herrera found Inaki Williams, and the forward finished the move with a calm finish.

Getafe almost found an equaliser shortly after through Damian Suarez, as the wing-back delivered a free-kick into the box, but it went straight through the crowd and almost crept in at the back post.

But the hosts’ disappointment was short-lived, and they did equalise midway through the first half through Carles Alena, who struck a well-taken volley beyond Unai Simon in the Bilbao goal.

The hosts then grew into the game, and almost took the lead through Borja Mayoral after half an hour, as the forward unleashed a strike in a promising position, but a Bilbao defender was in the right place to make the block, doing his part to ensure parity at the break.

Getafe came out for the second half looking to go ahead and almost did so in emphatic fashion, as Enes Unal chested a Suarez free kick before attempting an acrobatic overhead kick that was tipped over the bar by Simon.

Fighting back like true top-four contenders, Los Leones took the lead just after the hour mark, as Raul Garcia prodded a lovely cutback from Nico Williams across the goalkeeper and into the bottom corner.

Once again though, the Azulones equalised, through Munir El Haddadi with 15 minutes remaining, as he was played through on goal before slamming the ball into the top corner at the near post.

Getafe managed to hold on for a point that saw them climb to 15th in the table, whilst Athletic Bilbao missed the opportunity to break into the top four, albeit having played a game more than most teams around them.
