Hushovd is today general manager of the Uno-X Mobility cycling team and has enormous ambitions for his promising Norwegian-Danish squad.
However, one of the biggest stars of the Uno-X Mobility team says that the plans are currently unrealistic. “It’s unrealistic given the form Tadej Pogacar is in right now. We’ll see after he retires,” Soren Waerenskjold tells NRK.no.
Waerenskjold powered to Uno-x's only stage win on Stage 11 (Vichy to Nevers) of the 2026 Tour de France which ended on Sunday in Paris. The historic win was remarkably recorded as the fastest average-speed road stage in the entire history of the Tour de France, averaging 50.9 km/h
Waerenskjold's superior, Thor Hushovd, is the Norwegian rider with the most stage wins in the Tour de France, claiming 10 individual stage victories and winning the points classification (green jersey) twice during his career.
Huge ambitions
"It’s a bit of a case of 'the more you have, the more you want'—if you win one race, you naturally want to win another," says the 48-year-old. "We have long-term owners who are willing to invest. It is possible," says Hushovd regarding the chances of a Uno-X rider winning the Tour de France.
"You can't make progress without setting goals—so you have to have them," Uno-X rider Jonas Abrahamsen, who claimed a stage in last year's Tour de France, tells NRK. "We (Uno-X) had a goal of securing the yellow jersey in the Tour de France by 2030, but we achieved it this year already. We should be very pleased with that."
After four stages of this year's Tour, Torstein Træen held the yellow jersey for two stages before being forced to withdraw following a nasty crash.
"It’s been a fantastic Tour de France, with two days in the yellow jersey, a stage win, and two second-place finishes—and we’ve really made our presence felt," says Hushovd regarding the team's performance.
Tobias Halland Johannessen supports the ambitions. "We need to aim high. That’s why we do this. There’s only one way to go from here, and that’s up," says the 26-year-old.
Johannessen finished 12th in this year's Tour, making him the highest-placed Norwegian. He impressed greatly in 2025, finishing sixth in the general classification.
