Mayo had been on loan at Chiefs from Belouizdad and, despite a disappointing return in AmaKhosi colours, has now been permanently added to the squad.
Mayo failed to bed down a regular first-team berth, but Chiefs have paid an undisclosed fee to keep him. The club also did not reveal the length of Mayo’s contract.
The 27-year-old spent one season in Algeria after a stellar stint at Cape Town City, where he was among the league’s leading scorers.
Chiefs said Mayo was an important addition to their squad as they seek domestic honours and also participate in the African Confederation Cup.
“Known for his pace, creativity, and eye for goal, Mayo has already established himself as a fan favourite at Naturena,” said a club statement.
“His permanent move strengthens Amakhosi’s attacking options and signals the club’s intent to challenge for glory both locally and across Africa.”
Mayo made 15 appearances (6 starts) for Chiefs last season, scoring two goals.
He has 157 appearances through his career with 39 goals and nine assists, having also played for the likes of Richards Bay and Ubuntu Cape Town.
