That leaves them just two short of the Pirates club record in a 30-game season, when they managed 52 in the 2004/05 campaign but ended up second in the league.
It also keeps them on course to break the all-time record, set by Mamelodi Sundowns last season when they scored 59 goals in a campaign that was shortened to 28 matches due to Royal AM’s demise. If Pirates keep going at their current rate, they will score 60 goals.
The most Pirates have ever managed in a Betway Premiership season is the 72 goals they scored in 34 games in 1999/2000, yet they still finished second that year, and by some distance too, 11 points behind champions Sundowns.
The lowest number of goals in a campaign by Pirates was a paltry 26 in 2009/10, yet that was still good enough for fifth place.
Pirates have shared their goals around this season, with Relebohile Mofokeng leading the way with 10. He is followed by Oswin Appollis with eight and Patrick Maswanganyi with six, none of them what you would call strikers.
Evidence Makgopa, Tshepang Moremi and Yanele Mbuthuma have all managed five goals each in the league.
Pirates have also enjoyed facing Chiefs in recent times. They have won six of the last seven meetings between the Soweto rivals and scored 12 goals in the last five, more than two per game.
