Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Mduduzi Shabalala has suffered a broken arm and will miss the next five to six weeks, ruling him out for the remainder of the season, his club confirmed on Thursday.

Shabalala was clattered by Mamelodi SundownsJayden Adams in the 1-1 draw between the sides on Wednesday, for which the latter received only a yellow card. Adams was later sent off for a second bookable offence.

Shabalala has appeared in a few Bafana Bafana squads of late, but any hope that he might be on his way to the 2026 World Cup is over, with the tournament to kick off in a little over a month.

He played in Bafana’s final World Cup qualifier against Rwanda in October last year.

He has been a stalwart for Chiefs this season, with 36 appearances in all competitions, scoring five goals to go with three assists.

Chiefs have likely already secured third place and CAF Confederation Cup football next season, but can make sure with a win over Sekhukhune United on Sunday.
