Excelsior Rotterdam - FC Volendam: 1-1

Excelsior secured another season of Eredivisie football with a 1-1 draw against fellow bottom feeders FC Volendam on Sunday.

It took Volendam less than two minutes to break the deadlock in Rotterdam, as Benjamin Pauwels rushed down the left and tucked the ball neatly in Stijn van Gassel’s left-hand corner.

A scrappy goal got Excelsior back in it before half-time - Gibson Yah was unlucky after a corner ricocheted into Roy Steur’s goal, levelling the relegation six-pointer in a crucial moment.

Yah’s own goal was all Excelsior needed to secure another year in the Eredivisie, with the Rotterdam outfit on 35 points and safe from finishing among the bottom three places.

NAC Breda - sc Heerenveen: 2-0 (Abandoned)

NAC Breda were condemned to relegation due to results elsewhere, as their game against sc Heerenveen was suspended after misconduct from the home fans.

Captain Boy Kemper spectacularly opened the scoring for the hosts, firing a drop shot right into Bernt Klaverboer’s top corner with ten minutes to go in the first half.

After NAC Breda fans forced Sander van der Eijk to temporarily stop the match by throwing a flare onto the pitch, Kemper doubled the lead from the spot. The game would not finish on Sunday, though, with the home fans throwing more fireworks onto the pitch. A second stoppage meant that the game was permanently abandoned.

Fortuna Sittard - PEC Zwolle: 3-2

Fortuna Sittard and PEC Zwolle both secured another year of Eredivisie football after Fortuna's 3-2 win and results elsewhere on Sunday.

Lance Duijvestijn and Kaj Sierhuis combined wonderfully between a host of PEC defenders, with the former eventually firing Fortuna ahead after 21 minutes.

Yassine Oukili doubled Fortuna’s lead minutes into the second half, slotting the ball in Tom de Graaff’s goal from a post-free kick scrimmage.

Kaj Sierhuis put the game beyond doubt for Fortuna with a fabulous strike, volleying the ball into De Graaff’s bottom corner after hitting it mid-pirouette.

Gabriel Reiziger added a consolation goal to PEC’s tough afternoon, chipping the ball over Matthijs Branderhorst in the dying minutes. Zico Buurmeester added a late second for PEC, who fell to Fortuna Sittard in a game that saw both sides officially avoid relegation.

Telstar - Heracles Almelo: 3-0

Telstar booked a massive win in the fight against relegation by beating Heracles Almelo 3-0 on Sunday, creating a 2-point gap to 16th-placed FC Volendam ahead of their relegation clash next week.

Telstar’s Sem van Duijn got the biggest clear-cut chance a player could ask for right before half-time, but with a potentially pivotal goal on the horizon, the striker’s heavy touch killed Telstar’s lone chance before half-time.

After a delayed start to the first half, Telstar scored a relieving 1-0 through Guus Offerhaus, who attentively tapped in a rebound from a corner and put the hosts in the driver’s seat in the relegation battle.

Telstar made the stadium erupt again soon after Offerhaus’ opener when Tyrese Noslin tapped in a low cross from Patrick Brouwer at the far post, after which Jeff Hardeveld fully put the game to bed by heading in a cross from Noslin.
