Youssef En-Nesyri shone for Sevilla, as they made it 11 consecutive matches unbeaten against Cadiz, with a second-half blitz securing a much-needed three points for Jose Luis Mendilibar’s men at the Estadio Nuevo Mirandilla.

In a game between two relegation candidates, neither side were able to show any quality that suggested they should be higher in the table throughout a dismal first half.

Unsurprisingly, the best chance of the half fell to Sevilla’s En-Nesyri, whose header from 12 yards crept past the Cadiz far post, presenting little danger to shot-stopper David Gil.

Despite their struggles at times this season, Sevilla, who remain in the hunt for a record-extending seventh UEFA Europa League title, still boast plenty of talent within their ranks.

Such quality was on display just after the restart, when Lucas Ocampos squeezed an effort beyond Gil from inside the penalty area, giving the visitors a lift-off in a must-win clash for Luis Mendilibar’s side.

Looking to protect their three-year stint in the Spanish top flight, Cadiz’s reaction after falling behind was one of sheer determination. In fact, the home side ought to have found a leveller midway through the second half, but Rafael Jimenez Jarque lacked the composure needed in front of goal, with the defender rattling his close-range strike against the right-hand post.

It would prove the finest of margins for Cadiz, as the ever-dangerous En-Nesyri added a crucial second for the away side with 15 minutes left to play. Breaking in behind the Cadiz defence, the Moroccan striker poked home his third goal in five La Liga outings to secure the victory for Rojiblancos.

It’s a result that takes Sevilla, provisionally at least, into 13th position, with La Liga safety firmly in their own hands. The same cannot be said for Cadiz, who could find themselves inside the bottom three by the end of the weekend, should other results go against the Andalucian outfit.
