This Friday, the coach of Paris Saint-Germain spoke at a press conference before the 31st round of Ligue 1 between PSG and Lens. The match took a back seat and the extra-sporting issues monopolised the debate.

"I am deeply shocked by the comments that have been made about me and which have been relayed by some in an irresponsible manner, which strikes me at the very heart of my humanity," Christophe Galtier (56) explained.

"I am a child of the low-income housing estates brought up in a mixed environment, brought up in respect for others whatever their origin, colour or religion.

"My whole life as a man has been dictated by a concern for sharing and living well with others, and I cannot accept that my name and my family should be sullied in this way."

How he got through the last three days : "It was difficult, but I took refuge in my work to prepare for the upcoming meeting. The time I've spent on the pitch has allowed me to evacuate and forget everything that was said."

Preparing for the match in such conditions : "We prepared together. Everyone is looking forward to this big game, we have worked hard and we are very determined."

What are the key elements to win? "Lens are having a very good season. Lens are pressing hard, the team has this ability to project themselves quickly. We had trouble getting out of the press last time.

"We will have to be much more offensive than in the last few games and be vigilant. We have to be concentrated on the transition phases. We have a responsibility to come out with a great game."

The players' disruption in relation to the context? "My players have invested themselves totally. I didn't talk to them about the subject."

Marks of support from his counterparts : "I've had a lot of messages of support or unpleasant messages. Of course we appreciate the support. But you always have to be careful with what I say."

Looking back on the season: "We're in the extrasporting business... I knew there would be a lot of pressure when I arrived at Paris Saint-Germain.

"I didn't expect to experience what I'm experiencing today. But the situation is what it is, I have to face it. The most important thing is my relationship with the players.

What he expects at Parc des Princes: "I have no doubt that the fans will be behind us for this important game."
