Antonio Conte (53) has left Tottenham Hotspur by mutual consent, the club announced late on Sunday, after weeks of speculation about his future that saw the Italian openly criticise players and the club.

Conte, who guided Spurs to Champions League qualification in his first season after taking charge in November 2021, has come under increasing scrutiny in recent weeks for playing style and his war of words with the club.

In a statement, Spurs remarked: "We thank Antonio for his contribution and wish him well for the future."

Conte's assistant coach Cristian Stellini (48), who also took charge when the former Chelsea boss was hospitalised after having his gallbladder removed earlier this year, will take over as acting head coach and Ryan Mason (31) will be his assistant.

Daniel Levy, chairman of the North London side, added: “We have 10 Premier League games remaining and we have a fight on our hands for a Champions League place.

"We all need to pull together. Everyone has to step up to ensure the highest possible finish for our Club and amazing, loyal supporters.”

The question of who will take charge now hangs over the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with the likes of Julian Nagelsmann (35) - recently sacked as Bayern Munich boss - and former Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino (51) both heavily linked with the now vacant post.

Tottenham currently sit fourth in the Premier League standings and will face Everton on Monday night.
