Inter Turku welcomed the most decorated club in Finnish football on the back of three straight victories, the most recent two coming with clean sheets, while HJK had gone two unbeaten - including taking a point away at champions KuPS - since their only defeat so far.
After 41 minutes without a shot on target, the match exploded into life at the end of the first half. The home side took the lead when Loic Essomba's low cross from the right was met by Vincent Ulundu, who struck the post with an initial bobbling effort, before firing the rebound into the empty net with the goalkeeper stranded.
But it took only a minute for the visitors to hit back, as Mads Borchers went wandering down the left flank before cutting the ball back to Liam Moller, who did well to get the ball out of his feet and find the net with a first-time hit.
Despite the immediate setback, it was the hosts on the front foot for much of the second half, with 16 shots to HJK's three. Janne-Pekka Laine, Jasse Tuominen and Johannes Yli-Kokko all tested Matej Markovic, but the visiting goalkeeper preserved the point for HJK.
That meant FC Inter missed the chance to go top of the table, sitting second behind KuPS on goal difference, while HJK sit fourth, three points further back.
