The main sponsor of the Swedish national team, Svenska Spel, along with captain Victor Lindelof, have started a petition to temporarily set the clocks back seven hours in Sweden during the World Cup. The reason is simple: So that all of Sweden can follow the national team's matches live this summer, without having to stay awake in the middle of the night.

"This is the world's simplest solution so that everyone can watch our matches at convenient times", says team captain Victor Lindelöf in a campaign for the petition.

Several of Sweden's group stage matches are played at night (15 June, 04.00 CET against Tunisia, 26 June, 01.00 CET against Japan), making it tough for fans to watch.  Through the petition, the men's national team and Svenska Spel want to draw attention to the implications of night matches for Swedish fans, families, and everyone who wants to follow the matches live. Captain Victor Lindelöf is head of the campaign and says:

"Getting to wear the national team jersey in a major championship is undoubtedly one of the greatest things you can do as a football player. At the same time, this is the first time I have to worry about whether the Swedish people are awake when we play. It is not reasonable. That is why we want to change from summer time to football time, so that all of Sweden can follow us without having to get up in the middle of the night", says Victor Lindelöf.

The petition is available at fotbollstid. nu and will run until Sweden's first match in the tournament.

"The proposal may sound absurd, but the point is very real. When Sweden plays, as many people as possible should be able to join in. At home on the couch, at outdoor cafes, and in groups of friends. All of Sweden should be able to experience the excitement, community, and joy surrounding the national team without having to get up in the middle of the night", says Anna Johnson, CEO and President of Svenska Spel.

If the turnout is large enough, Svenska Spel allegedly wants to consult the government on the issue.
