Griekspoor was forced into the qualifiers after falling just short of the required ranking, with his 50th spot earning him the second seed in qualifying.
Against wild card Benjamin Bonzi, Griekspoor had a shaky start and soon fell behind after the Frenchman converted on his second break point to make it 3-1. Griekspoor rebounded on his third break point, but couldn't hold on to the momentum and fell to a fired-up Bonzi to lose another opening set.
The second set was a Griekspoor classic, with the Dutchman finding his rhythm on serve and not allowing a single break point. Bonzi repeated the feat, making a do-or-die tiebreak necessary. Two consecutive mini-breaks helped Griekspoor win the set, which he had to wait for after failing to clinch his first three set points.
The two stayed close together in the third and final set, but Griekspoor lost focus and lost his third service game on love to hand Bonzi the initiative. The 99th-ranked Frenchman fended off two break points to stay firmly in control and eventually clinch the match on his first match point.
The defeat is a new low for Griekspoor, who won the Brussels title one week ago and went toe-to-toe with Alexander Zverev in Vienna. There will be one tournament left for the Dutchman to recover crucial ranking points, with the Bybit Stockholm Open scheduled for November 8-14.
