Torino remain unbeaten after 2-1 win over Cremonese

Despite a late goal from Cremonese, Torino held on for a 2-1 win, keeping their unbeaten start to the season going with the victory seeing them up to second in Serie A.

The opening stages of this game undoubtedly went with the form book, with unbeaten Torino causing a whole end of problems for winless Cremonese.

Their pressure eventually told in rather fortunate fashion when Matteo Bianchetti rather comically turned the ball past Ionut Radu and into his own goal. The own-goal didn’t seem to spur Cremonese into life, instead it kicked Torino on even more, and when Ola Aina was released down the left, he ought to have at least found the target, but his wayward effort sailed over the bar.

Cremonese did eventually forge an opening on goal, but as the ball kindly ricocheted to the feet of Jaime Báez in the box, the Uruguayan could only flash an effort across the face of goal.

The second half was much of the same from a Torino point of view, with total dominance from the start, almost capped off by David Okereke who raced clear on goal only to see his effort rebuffed by the outstretched leg of Radu.

A second goal did eventually come for Torino though, with some impressive Mergim Vojvoda work capped off by Nemanja Radonjić who tapped home from close range.

In truth, Torino never really got out of second gear all night, but were forced to work for the points when Leonardo Sernicola’s curling effort arrowed into the top corner of Vanja Milinkovic-Savic’s goal to set up a grandstand finish.

You’d have to say the final 10 minutes were a little anticlimactic from a Cremonese point of view, who slumped to a third successive defeat in what was their first SA home game since 1996.
