It didn't take long for the tributes to roll in from across the globe in honour of the glittering career of Roger Federer (41), who announced that he will retire after the Laver Cup in London beginning next week.

Federer took to Twitter to announce the news via an audio message in which he thanked fans, players, coaches, family and more adding that "the Laver Cup next week in London will be my final ATP event. I will play more tennis in the future, of course, but just not in Grand Slams or on the tour."

Tributes from the tennis world have, understandably, flooded in. Stars from the past, present and future are all bidding warm farewells to Federer.

Also, tributes have poured in from the wider world of sports.

Cricket's Virat Kohli & Sachin Tendulkar, England football legend Gary Lineker and IOC President Thomas Bach all expressed their admiration for the Swiss great.

Tributes are coming in from further afield, too.

Vogue Magazine's Editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour, penned an emotional farewell to Federer barely moments after Federer announced the news on Twitter.

The Swiss President, Ignazio Cassis, also thanked his compatriot for the incredible memories.
