A career-best performance from a 20-year-old Phoenix centre back headlines our Round 8 A-League Men Team of the Week.

Here are the eleven top performers (by position) from Round 7 of the A-League, according to Flashscore's in-house player rating system.

Goalkeeper

James Delianov (Newcastle Jets) - 8.3

Delianov was stellar between the posts for the Jets in their 3-1 win, keeping out seven of the eight shots on target that came his way. It's a tribute to his performance that the Phoenix had more total shots on target than the Jets (ten to nine) but the final score was completely different.

Defenders

Daniel Wilmering (Newcastle Jets) - 8.5

Wilmering followed up a Player of the Match performance two rounds back with an 8.5 in the Jets' 3-1 win over Wellington, assisting the goal that put them up 3-0 whilst winning seven duels, pressing forward to make 23 accurate passes in the final third and creating two 'big chances'.

Lucas Herrington (Brisbane Roar) - 8.1

Herrington was our Player of the Match against the Wanderers for making 47 accurate passes out of 49 - the second-most of the match - whilst recording a game-high 12 clearances.

Lukas Kelly-Heald (Wellington Phoenix) - 8.9

It might be unusual to see losing centre back Kelly-Heald alongside Wilmering in our back four, but a quick scan of the highlights video will show you that the youngster was not at fault for any of the three goals conceded by the Phoenix.

Kelly-Heald was favoured by our algorithm because he recorded the most clearances (11) and most interceptions (5) of the match whilst also winning four out of four tackles and four out of four aerial duels. Sublime.

Dylan Pierias (Adelaide United) - 8.0

Pierias fills the right-back position this week courtesy of assisting Adelaide United's only goal in the loss to the Victory, whilst he won a game-high six out of seven ground duels and making three successful dribbles.

Midfielders

Clarismario (Melbourne Victory) - 7.9

Clarismario posted his best match rating of season 2025/26 by passing with 83% accuracy and registering three shots.

Juan Mata (Melbourne Victory) - 8.0

It was a vintage performance from the 37-year-old who registered his second-highest Flashscore match rating in Victory colours.

In addition to finding his target with two crosses, Mata attempted 27 passes in the final third and a staggering 26 (96%) of them were on target.

Lachlan Brook (Auckland FC) - 7.7

Brook topped the charts for shots (4) and touches in the opposition box (7), recording 1.53xGOT (xG on target) whilst assisting Sam Cosgrove's match-winner. It was his best Flashscore rating of the season so far.

Abel Walatee (Sydney FC) - 7.4

Walatee picked up a 7.4 rating for scoring the only goal of Sydney FC's win in Perth, his first start for the club owing to Joe Lolley's absence.

Forwards

Sam Cosgrove (Auckland FC) - 8.5

Cosgrove is in our Team of the Week for the second time in five rounds after notching up a match-best rating of 8.5 for his four shots, seven touches in the box and his second-half match-winning strike in Gosford.

Nikos Vergos (Melbourne Victory) - 8.2

Vergos could well have been dropped from the Victory lineup entirely were they not bereft of other options, but he has bought himself some more time in the starting XI after ending a 17-game goalscoring drought with a match-winning double in the Victory's crucial win over Adelaide United.

He kept busy with seven touches in the opposition box, four shots and five accurate passes in the final third.
