The only current team event on the schedule is the World Cup of Darts, where players compete across singles and doubles matches to represent their country.
Humphries helped England win the 2024 tournament while partnering Michael Smith, but suffered a shock second-round exit at this year's event with Luke Littler.
'Cool Hand' wants to see the introduction of more international team tournaments and believes an event like golf's Ryder Cup can raise the profile of darts.
"If you were to host a Ryder Cup-style team tournament, that absolutely appeals to me," Humphries told talkSPORT.
"Anything you do for your country brings out a different version of people. Players get fired up and really motivated when they play for their country."
Humphries delved deeper into the potential structure, mentioning that teams must be organised fairly for a balanced competition.
"A Ryder Cup would be great, as long as it's done fairly," Humphries added.
"You can't simply pit England and the United Kingdom against Europe, because then almost all the top players would be on the British side."
Humphries also suggested a variety of alternative scoring formats to further enhance the sport's entertainment value.
"I would also like to see a different format, such as 701 or 1001, first to three.
"The only problem with that is that it plays into the hands of players who put up a lot of scores.
"You can also do something like 301, best of 19. There are other options. I would like to see a fun format one day. Maybe even a cricket match."
