Denver Broncos All-Pro cornerback Patrick Surtain II (24) suffered an ankle sprain during the team's game against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.

The injury occurred when Surtain picked the ball off in the third quarter. Fortunately, he returned and finished the game. He is officially questionable for Thursday's matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers

"Anything we do relative to a player's injury is always if the medical staff feels like he can go back in and he's healthy enough," said Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton.

"There is never any, ‘Well we don't need him now.' It is just strictly, is he healthy enough to play? If he's not, he won't. If he is, he will play. I think that is the only way you can approach things like that."

Surtain was having one of the best seasons for any cornerback in the league. His 88.3 PFF coverage grade is the second-best among 216 qualified cornerbacks this season and also ranks third with an overall 85.9 grade.

This season, Surtain has 32 tackles (one for a loss), 11 pass deflections, four interceptions for a league-leading 132 yards, and a pick-six.

Surtain recently signed a four-year, $96 million ($75 million guaranteed) contract extension that'll keep him on the Broncos until 2030.

The 9-5 Denver Broncos are currently in the midst of a hard-hitting playoff race with three games left in the season.
