Pelissero reports that the Patriots will release Stefon Diggs following the start of the new league year next week, when free agency starts on Wednesday, March 11th. The team will save at least $6 million in guaranteed money Diggs was owed, while also clearing $16.8 million in cap space for next season.
Only DT Milton Williams was set to have a higher cap hit than Diggs ($26.5 million) next season.
Diggs, 32, joined the New England Patriots in the 2025 offseason after spending one season with the Houston Texans. The experienced wideout will join his fourth team in as many years after spending the previous three years with the Patriots, Texans, and Buffalo Bills.
In his lone season as a Patriot, Stefon Diggs caught 85 passes for 1,013 yards and 4 touchdowns in 17 games (17 starts), thus becoming the first Patriots receiver to eclipse 1,000 yards since Julian Edelman in 2019.
Diggs led the team in receiving yards as the Patriots reached Super Bowl LX, which they lost 29-13 to the Seattle Seahawks. The experienced wideout caught three balls for 37 yards against the Seahawks.
Diggs responded to the Patriots' decision in a story on his Instagram: "THANK YOU for a hell of a year. We family forever."

Diggs' postseason was dominated by off-field issues stemming from a dispute with a former personal chef, who claims to have been assaulted and strangled by Stefon Diggs in December. The arraignment of Diggs' case was postponed until after the Super Bowl.
Stefon Diggs' brother, cornerback Trevon Diggs, was released in January following a short stint with the Green Bay Packers.
Since being drafted with the 146th pick in the 2015 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings, Stefon Diggs has amassed 11,504 receiving yards and 74 touchdowns from 942 receptions. With 58 more receptions, Diggs would become the 20th player in NFL history to eclipse 1,000 receptions.
