The New York Jets have placed the franchise tag on running back Breece Hall after failing to reach an agreement about an extension, per NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

Breece Hall was given the non-exclusive franchise tag, meaning the New York Jets can match any offer he receives, and he's free to negotiate with other teams.

The Jets have the right of first refusal, and if they refuse to match an offer, the team getting Hall would give the Jets two first-round draft picks as compensation.

Hall, 24, comes fresh off the back of his best NFL season to date. As the Jets went 3-14, the former Iowa State Cyclone put up 1,065 rushing yards in the 2025 NFL season, making it his first 1,000-yard season since being drafted in 2022.

Adding to that, Hall threw a touchdown pass in the Jets' 39-38 win over the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 8.

With the franchise tag, the Jets are set to pay Hall $14.293 million in 2026, unless the two sides can agree on a contract extension. According to Jordan Schultz, the Jets and Hall have been in talks and will continue to negotiate a long-term deal.

The Jets and Hall gave until July 15th to come to an agreement. If that deadline isn't met, Hall will play the 2026 season under the tag.

The New York Jets drafted Breece Hall with the 36th pick of the 2022 NFL Draft. Since landing in New York, Hall recorded 3,398 rushing yards and 1,642 receiving yards, while scoring 27 total touchdowns.
