NFLPA Executive Director Lloyd Howell was disgusted at the NFL's idea of an 18-game regular season stating that "no one" among the league's players want this to happen.

After it recently came out that NFL concussions were at an all-time low thanks to state-of-the-art helmet technology and the introduction of the guardian caps in regular season games, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell tossed around the thought of an 18-game season.

If that were to be implemented for next season, it would make it just four years removed from the league expanding to a 17-game regular season schedule.

"No one wants to play 18 games - some guys don't even want to play 17, just given the toll it has on their body and the lack of time to recover," said Howell. "(...) The Packers flew from Green Bay to Brazil and back in 48 hours (this season). Players are feeling the physical toll."

But Goodell went even further stating that he would love to see at least 16 games overseas per season as well. However, Goodell understands he can't just rule with an iron fist and that the health of the players is of utmost concern.

"Fans love football, they want more football, but we have to be incredibly sensitive and smart about the balance and how we deal with that," said the commissioner.

Despite the casual conversations between Powell and Goodell, and with no formal proposal even in writing, the former of the two doesn't sound like he's going to budge on the matter at hand.

"I heard the commissioner remark recently that the league has made enough progress on health and safety to expand the regular season. Frankly, we're not sure how he is reaching that conclusion," said Howell.
