The Athletics acquired infielder Jeff McNeil from the New York Mets in exchange for 17-year-old pitcher Yordan Rodriguez.

McNeil finished the 2025 season with 12 home runs, 54 RBI, and a .243/.335/.411 slashline in 122 games.

The 33-year-old is a two-time All-Star who won a Silver Slugger in 2022 after also earning the Batting Title. He finished that season with an MLB-best .326 batting average.

McNeil hasn't hit above .260 in a season since 2023 and has seen his batting average decline sice. He'll look to get that average above .250 for the Athletics.

As for the Mets, the move could be a key indicator that they're going all in on acquiring Arizona Diamondbacks All-Star infielder Ketel  , who is one of the most sought-out trade pieces this offseason for multiple teams.

Rodriguez will be a work-in-progress for the Mets. He tossed a 2.93 earned run average in eight games during rookie ball this year for the Athletics, giving up 11 hits, five runs, and eight walks through 15.1 innings with 20 strikeouts.
