22-year-old Queenslander Meila Stalker and 25-year-old Melburnian Tess Coady, the latter a bronze medallist on the Slopestyle at Beijing 2022, qualified for the women's big air event earlier this morning.
Stalker finished sixth in the final qualification run with a score of 82.75 and Coady claimed the 12th and final position in Tuesday morning's final with a score of 75.00.
After falling in her first jump, Stalker produced a move she had never previously used in a competitive event - a backside double cork 1080, which involves three full rotations of the board and body - in the second round, enough to eventually qualify comfortably.
"It was the first time doing back dub ten in a competition," Stalker said on Tuesday morning.
"I learned that on the day I came here, so to be able to put it in in comp mode is pretty cool.
"I had so much anxiety throughout the whole day so I think I’m pretty glad to just kind of breathe through it and just get them down.”
There were three other Aussies to compete on day 3 with less fortune: Alex Ferlazzo finished 18th in the men's luge at his fourth Winter Olympics, whilst the men's skiathlon - otherwise known as cross country skiing - saw Aussies Hugo Hinckfuss and Seve de Campo both finish outside the top 50, more than seven minutes behind highly decorated winner Johannes Høsflot Klæbo.
The women's snowboard big air final is set to take place at 5:30am (run 1) and 5:53am (run 2) AEDT.
At the same time, Holly Harris and Jason Chan will be the fifth run on the rhythm dance figure skating competition, which is due to commence at 5:20am on Tuesday morning.
Looking ahead to Day 5: From 9:10pm on Tuesday night, the heats for the men's 1000m short track speed skating - the event that Steven Bradbury famously won in 2002 - will have one Australian skater.
Brendan Corey, who similarly to Bradbury suffered a near-death incident on the ice when his neck was sliced open by another skater's blade at the World Championships in Beijing last year, will race in the first heat of the night on Tuesday.
