Colorado Avalanche star Nathan MacKinnon became the first player in the NHL to reach 50 goals for the 2025-2026 season during Wednesday's matchup against the Vancouver Canucks.

MacKinnon, 30, scored his 50th less than two minutes into the game past goalie Kevin Lankinen. The goal brought MacKinnon to 121 points on the season (50 goals, 71 assists), tying Tampa Bay Lightning's Nikita Kucherov for the second most in the NHL behind Connor McDavid (125).

He now has five goals in the past five games.

The NHL has now seen at least one 50-goal scorer of the past five seasons and the 10th in the last 15 seasons, four of whom came from Alexander Ovechkin

MacKinnon has put up at least 110 points in each of the last four seasons and is now leading an Avs team trying to become the first in the league to reach 50 wins. They currently sit at 49-14-10, being the only team in the league with over 100 points (108).
