The Baltimore Orioles acquired starting pitcher Shane Baz from the Tampa Bay Rays in a trade deal on Friday for a sizeable list of top prospects.

In return, the Rays will receive 2025 first-round picks Slater de Brun (OF) and Caden Bodine (C), along with right-handed pitcher Michael Forret (BAL No. 11 prospect), outfielder Austin Overn (BAL No. 30 prospect), and a Competitive Balance Round A pick.

The 26-year-old Baz finished his first full season with a 4.87 earned run average through 31 starts with a 10-12 record.

Baz gave up 158 hits and 64 walks, with 176 strikeouts through 166.1 innings of work. In 18 of his 31 starts, Baz worked only 5.2 innings or less, reaching eight innings once all of last year.

However, his earned run stats are inflated as he tossed an almost 6.00 ERA at home games and under a 4.00 ERA on the road last season. He's also one year removed from tossing a 3.06 ERA through 14 starts, giving up just 57 hits in 79.1 innings with 27 walks and 69 strikeouts.

Baz has a couple more years of arbitration left after the 2026 season, possibly locking him up in an Orioles uniform for the foreseeable future.
