Pitchers Jordan Hicks (28) and Kyle Harrison (23), along with minor leaguers James Tibbs III (OF, 22) and Jose Bello (P, 20), will be heading to Boston as part of the trade.
The deal occurred just minutes before Harrison was set to start for the Giants in their game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The three-time All-Star and two-time Silver Slugger in Devers was slashing a solid .272/.401/.504 for the Red Sox this year on top of his 15 home runs and 58 RBI, including a walk-off win against the division rivals Baltimore Orioles a few weeks ago.
Devers has been a part of the Red Sox since his rookie year in 2017 and signed a 10-year, $313.5 million contract extension back in 2023. However, there was a lot of conflict with the third baseman after the team signed star Alex Bregman in the offseason, causing a lot of back and forth with Devers refusing to play anywhere else but third base.
He now joins a 41-30 Giants team that is just one game back of the Dodgers for first place in a tough National League West division...and also has a gold glove third baseman in Matt Chapman (currently on the 10-day injured list).
The pitchers Boston acquired have been struggling this year. Right-hander Hicks is 1-5 this season with a 6.47 earned run average (ERA) but was converted to a reliver in Mid-May and is coming off back-to-back shutout innings of relief for the Giants.
Meanwhile, Harrison, who went from reliever to start (opposite of Hicks), is 1-1 on the year in eight appearances (four starts) with a 4.56 ERA, giving up eight runs in his last 9.1 innings.
