It's a move that surprised a lot of fans around the league, considering not only has Simpson become the base-stealing star with the best speed in Major League Baseball, but he'd also been seeing the ball well.
He was slashing a solid .285/.315/.632 in 35 games for the Rays this season while racking up 11 RBI and 19 stolen bases.
To put that into perspective, before being sent down, Simpson was third in the MLB in stolen bases behind Luis Robert Jr. (21) and Bobby Witt Jr. (20), both of whom have played over 50 games this season to Simpson's 35.
But Simpson wasn't just making plays with his legs or his bat, he was also making Gold Glove-caliber plays in centerfield.
