The two-time Cy Young winner, who joined the Dodgers from the Detroit Tigers on Saturday, made his debut with his new team at Wrigley Field. He pitched six innings against the Cubs.
Skubal allowed two runs, one of which came via a Danny Swanson home run in the bottom of the third inning. He also allowed four hits, two coming in his last inning. The 29-year-old managed to strike out six and walk six, leaving the game with his new team down 2-1. The Cubs would go on to win 5-1.
As part of the trade, the Tigers received three prospects from the Dodgers for Skubal, who will be a free agent at the end of the season. Detroit's president Scott Harris stated on Monday that he knew his team would not be able to sign Skubal long-term, leading to the trade.
Triple-A pitcher River Ryan, Double-A outfielder Zyhir Hope, and High-A pitcher Brady Smith left LA for the Tigers, with hope being a top-25 prospect according to some prospect rankers.
Before joining the Dodgers, Skubal had played his entire MLB career with the Tigers, who drafted him from Seattle University in the ninth round of the 2018 draft.
Skubal's next game could very well come against his former employers at Comeria Park, though that will depend on how the Dodgers prepare their rotation. That series is set to take place between August 28 and 30.
